About me

My name is Jackie Bassett, and I am a Director of People Strategy at UChicago Medicine with a passion for people. I love helping organizations thrive by putting people first. In fact, I have spent most of my professional life pursuing this passion. In my first profession as an engineer, I discovered that I loved leading and motivating teams as much as I loved solving complex engineering problems. So I became a strategy and change consultant in my second profession, to focus on helping my clients solve complex people problems. Building on my love for helping people, I became an organization development professional in my third profession, focusing on hiring, engaging and developing great people in the tech industry. Now in my fourth profession as a people strategist in the healthcare industry, I partner with healthcare leaders to identify strategic people priorities, hire and develop employees, and improve employee engagement.
My areas of expertise include: People strategy, Coaching, Employee engagement, Leadership development, Employee development, Organizational culture, Team leadership, People analytics, Organizational design & transformation, Communications, Change management, Performance management, Recruiting, On-boarding, Project management, and Process redesign.
I’ve been very involved in coaching, mentoring and developing employees throughout my career. I coach employees to improve performance and achieve their career development goals. I've led leader and manager development programs, employee engagement initiatives and a women’s networking group. I coach and mentor new and aspiring leaders.
I hold an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, an MS in Structural Engineering from UC Berkeley and a BS in Architectural Engineering from Cal Poly. My other passions include traveling – I have worked and studied in China, Finland and France – and blogging (www.peepsfirst.com), cooking and cycling. I own 6 bicycles in 4 cities (New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Knoxville).
